Mythe Barn Partners with Local Borough Council on Sustainability Mission

On the 14th March 2024, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council (HBBC) hosted their annual Rural Conference at a venue located in the Borough, Mythe Barn. The event welcomed around 100 attendees and representatives from the Borough councils Parish Councils, partners organisations, charities, schools and businesses, all in attendance to share their sustainability experiences with one another and to generate further ideas and partnerships for supporting the Borough Council’s biodiversity and climate change strategy.

It was the first time the event had been held at the picturesque 150 acre working farm. The venue was selected for its strong green credentials and alignment with the values of the HBBC and their aims to reduce their carbon footprint and to reach net zero. Mythe Farm is also home to UK leading event management company, Eventurous. Eventurous were able to offer more than just their event management services.

As well as impressing guests with the many green initiatives on site, including a Wildflower Meadow, 12,000 planted trees, 500 solar panels, electric vehicle chargers and beehives, the guests got to learn about the venue’s amazing sustainability journey, which led them to earn GOLD ECOsmart accreditation.

Joe and Joanna Garland, owners of Mythe Farm, shared their passions for the environment and local community through demonstrating over a decade of hard work on their premises.

Joanna said “We are extremely proud of our team and all they have achieved to do more for our planet. So, it was a pleasure to be asked to take part in this event, and to be able to offer our beautiful venue and excellent event management services to support the HBBC with their important mission. We loved spending the day chatting to and learning from others within the community, and it was great to meet so many passionate and caring individuals. We left feeling really inspired.”

Joe continued, “You could see the buzz around the place, particularly in the networking sessions, there were so many ideas floating around. We’ve arranged to team up with local businesses to do volunteering and green meetings with the aim of finding new ways we can partner to make a positive difference.”

Cllr Martin Cartwright

Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council Executive Member for Climate change, Environmental, Rural affairs & Licensing fed back about the event, stating,

“The event was a complete success. The Mythe and Eventurous team and catering were outstanding pre conference & during the event itself, the sustainable touches such as the bamboo crockery and zero single use plastic throughout did not go un-noticed. Achieving professional delivery of the Rural Conference is important to us, particularly in achieving high engagement from our attendees. The annual Rural Conference is a getting together to learn what we have collectively achieved, to celebrate that achievement and to work through priorities for the coming year.”

He continued,

“With 21 exhibition stands at the event, our delegates were able to take away information that helps them in their community work. Post conference, I have seen nothing but complements. I am proud of what we have all achieved.”

To strengthen Mythe’s mission in supporting this event, Eventuruos offered their Carbon Calculator service, which allowed the Borough Council to measure the carbon emissions of their Annual Rural Conference and make recommendations for changes to reduce emissions at future events.

Carbon Reduction and Climate Change Officer, Danielle talks about her experience using the carbon calculator,

“The carbon calculator from Eventurous, has helped us to achieve our green goals, we can now see year on year how we can reduce our event emissions to meet our net zero targets. Thanks to the information from the report, we are looking to increase the percentage of plant based catering options available at our 2025 event amongst other things. The process of using the carbon calculator was easy too, we’d recommend it to anyone looking to run more sustainable events.”
